Anxiety is one of the weapons Satan uses to overwhelm and paralyze you, and keep you from experiencing the full life God intended for you to have. However, take heart. God has equipped you with His spiritual armor with which to defeat the foe. The most powerful piece of this armor is His Word, the sword of the Spirit, which is “alive and powerful, and sharper than the sharpest two-edged sword” (Ephesians 6:17, Hebrews 4:12).

Praying and declaring Scripture over your struggles and circumstances can protect you from every scheme of the enemy by countering Satan’s lies with the all-powerful truth of God’s Word. Jesus, Himself used it when He was tempted by Satan in the wilderness (Luke 4:1-13). By following His example, you too can be victorious in your battle against anxiety.

Do not be anxious about anything, but in every situation, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.Philippians 4:6-7, NIV

It’s easy to feel anxious when life throws you a curve ball such as ill-health, the loss of a job, or a growing pile of bills you don’t have money to pay, but when you surrender your anxious thoughts to God through prayer, with thanksgiving, He promises to replace them with peace that surpasses understanding.

And which of you being anxious can add a single hour to his span of life? If then you are not able to do as small a thing as that, why are you anxious about the rest? Luke 12:25-26, ESV

Anxiety is futile. It has no power to help you or provide for you. Only God can do that. Being consumed by anxiety expresses a lack of faith in God’s ability to take care of you and wastes precious energy that could be challenged into more useful things.

Blessed is the man who trusts in the LORD, whose trust is the LORD. He is like a tree planted by water, that sends out its roots by the stream, and does not fear when heat comes, for its leaves remain green, and is not anxious in the year of drought, for it does not cease to bear fruit. – Jeremiah 17:7-8, ESV

Putting your trust in God and firmly believing all His promises are true will keep you from being shaken. A life deeply rooted in the Lord and by the power of His Word will be effective and productive regardless of the circumstances.

So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand. Isaiah 41:10, NIV

God is always with you, even during the anxious times of life, and promises to strengthen and help you if you put your trust in Him. Focus on Him instead of your trial, and let Him guide you through the troubled waters. 

When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and when you pass through the rivers, they will not sweep over you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be burned; the flames will not set you ablaze. Isaiah 43:2, NIV

No matter what life throws at you, God is in control and promises to be with you even during your greatest trials and afflictions.

Therefore I tell you, do not be anxious about your life, what you will eat or what you will drink, nor about your body what you will put on. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothing? Look at the birds of the air: they neither sow nor reap nor gather into barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not of more value than they?…And why are you anxious about your clothing? Jesus exhorts us to focus on God and on things that have eternal value, rather than be obsessed with temporal things. To be anxious about these essentials demonstrates a lack of faith in God’s willingness and/or ability to provide for you. If God cares even for the birds of the air and the flowers in the field, how much more will He care for you? God knows your basic needs, and after you’ve done what you can do, trust Him with the outcome.

Therefore, do not be anxious about tomorrow, for tomorrow will be anxious for itself. Sufficient for the day is its own trouble. Matthew 6:34, ESV

Don’t become so consumed with anxiety over tomorrow’s issues that you keep from addressing today’s. God is in control, and He will give you enough strength to face each day as it comes.

God is bigger than your greatest concern could ever be. When you turn your anxieties over to Him and trust in Him to see you through He promises to keep your mind in perfect peace.
